The Misguided Nationalist

”The Negro will only be free when he reaches down to the inner depths of his own being and signs with the pen and ink of assertive manhood his own emancipation proclamation. Psychological freedom, a firm sense of self-esteem, is the most powerful weapon against the long night of physical slavery. No Lincolnian Emancipation Proclamation, no Johnsonian civil rights bill can totally bring this kind of freedom”Martin Luther King Jr.

For those who have taking the intergrationist road toward race relations in this country, whining , complaining and agitating for and about “equality” (I put quotations around the term as I don’t believe it exists) makes sense. After all, you want a sympathetic population to merge with. But, for us Nationalists and others who believe in self-determination that is the antithesis of our message.

I believe a Nationalist knows one doesn’t get treated fairly simply because he was born, but for what he and his people accomplish and for what power his people seize for themselves. Self determination, along with economic and political independence are the route for the thinking Nationalist of any race or culture.

I do not post this as a treatise on Nationalism or even to educate folks on what nationalism is. I say this because online I see many so-called Nationalists complaining about racism, how whites are treating them, segregation (which is illogical for a Nationalist to take issue with), and any assortment of issues that are not the concern of nationalist but the purview of the assimilationist and integrationist. Oddest of all some even call themselves people of color, as it is called nationalisms instead nationalism. Of course a nationalist looks for allies but knows they aren’t one people.
For certain their outlook runs counter to this great and still completely relevant text from Marcus Garvey.

If you cannot do it, if you are not prepared to do it…then you will die.
You race of cowards, you race of imbeciles, you race of good for nothings
If you cannot do what other men have done
What other nations have done, what other races have done
Then you, yourself shall die. – Marcus M. Garvey
